Hi Members and Friends of the California Hospitality Community,
This email is being sent in support of all those affected within California’s Restaurant and Food Service industries.
We are all facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are all in desperate need of help.
Governments in other states, such as New York and Texas, have taken action by allowing for alcohol and cocktails to be sold through take-out and delivery from all liquor-licensed restaurants and bars, as long as it's accompanied by food. And as you are certainly aware, cocktail sales are among the highest-margin items a restaurant or bar can sell, and therefore, is a very powerful tool to keep doors open and staff employed. In particular, Beer & Wine-licensed locations, that are not currently selling cocktails, can create an entirely new income stream even during these difficult times (click here to learn how Beer & Wine licensees can legally sell cocktails).
For more details about these new regulations, please read our most recent blog post and article on MEDIUM.
Today, we are asking that California take similar action. We hope that you will join us in encouraging California Governor Gavin Newsom to help California's restaurants and bars by allowing for alcohol and cocktails to be sold through take-out and delivery from licensed restaurants and food-serving bars.
Sending an email to the governor is the best and quickest way to share our message, and can be done by clicking HERE and selecting “Have Comment” as your choice of purpose and “COVID-19” as your choice of subject.
Although a personal statement is always best, you are welcome to use the following statement as a guide for your outreach to the governor:
“Governor Newsom, I am currently [part of / a patron and supporter of] the restaurant industry in California, and we desperately need your help! Please help California restaurants, bars, and their staff and employees by immediately allowing California state restaurants and bars to sell cocktails for takeout and delivery, just as the New York’s State Liquor Authority and Governor of Texas has done for their restaurant and bar communities.”
You can also call or mail the Governor directly to his office at:

In this time of great uncertainty and challenges, all businesses, and in particular those directly impacted by COVID-19 (coronavirus) shut-downs such as dine-in restaurants and bars, must seek new and creative ways to help make ends meet. Thankfully for those in New York and Texas, the New York SLA and Texas Governor have offered a powerful solution by allowing cocktail take-out and delivery, which, together with innovative, cost-reducing technology such as Somabar, may keep restaurants and its employees afloat in the unpredictable days and weeks to come. Join us in urging Governor Newsom to take the same bold action in California to help the state’s devastated restaurant industry.
